Sierra Wireless have released their first product in the PCI Express Mini Card product line, the MC5720, for CDMA 1xEV-DO networks. The Express Mini Card series of devices is designed to seamlessly integrate portable computing devices with 3G networks.

This is great news for laptop users, for two reasons:
1. They don't have to depend on the availability of Wi-Fi hotspots when they are on the move
2. 3G speeds mean they will now have truly broadband connectivity

Since the Express Mini Card will be an embedded unit, you also won't have to carry any additional device for connectivity.

Typical download rates supported by the MC5720 module are in the range of 400-700 kbps, and peak speeds up to 2.4 Mbps. In areas where EV-DO network is not available, the MC5720 switches back to 1X networks without interruption.
